Cuenca's Historic Center recently saw the presentation of a new real estate and architectural endeavor: Casa Toquilla Studios & Suites. Developed by Bentho Constructora, the project was officially introduced on the evening of Thursday, September 10, 2026.

Located at the intersection of Benigno Malo and Pío Bravo streets, Casa Toquilla Studios & Suites is positioned for individuals interested in either residing or investing within the city's historic core. Harry Alvarado of Bentho Constructora confirmed the project's primary focus on investment opportunities.

Byron Mora, general manager of Bentho Constructora, emphasized the development's commitment to respecting Cuenca's unique architecture, history, and heritage. This dedication is evident in the design, which incorporates natural fibers, wood, earth tones, and woven patterns. These elements are intended to evoke the traditional paja toquilla, a nod to Cuenca's rich artisanal legacy.

Architect Juan Izquierdo explained that the design draws inspiration from traditional Cuencan houses, particularly those built around interior patios. The project blends details from heritage buildings with a contemporary interpretation. Residents will have access to common areas that include coworking spaces, a gym, and a VIP lounge.

This new development also highlights the ongoing private investment in residential projects within Cuenca's Historic Center, contributing to the area's continued evolution while aiming to preserve its distinct character.
