Residents and commuters in Cuenca may have noticed recent activity near the Mariscal La Mar airport following an incident on the night of October 18. A section of the southern perimeter fence, which was under construction, collapsed. Additionally, a video shows that part of the wall separating Núñez de Bonilla street from the airport runway is detached.
The Airport Corporation (Corporación Aeropuertaria) issued a statement regarding the incident. They confirmed that the collapsed wall is part of a perimeter fence currently being built. To ensure the safety of pedestrians and drivers, the corporation is actively removing debris and material from both the road and the sidewalk adjacent to the affected area.
At this time, the specific reasons behind the wall's collapse are not known. This development highlights the ongoing work at the airport and the immediate response by authorities to maintain public safety around the construction zone.
