Cuenca's May 24 Holiday Weekend Has Food, Dance, Books and Cultural Stops

If you are staying in Cuenca for the Battle of Pichincha holiday, the city has enough going on to build a weekend without leaving town.
El Mercurio reports that Cuenca announced activities tied to the national holiday, with music, dance, gastronomy and fairs on the calendar.
Thursday, May 21
Two evening activities are listed for 19:00: Cineclub Fans del Miedo will screen 1978 at Casa Patrimonial del Artista, and the rap battle Versos de Independencia will take place at Escalinata Francisco Sojos Jaramillo.
Friday, May 22
At 10:00, there is a FreeTour Gastronomico at Parque La Merced. El Mercurio also lists the bailaton Por amor a Mama at 19:00 in Parque Los Educadores.
Saturday, May 23
The day's list includes the used-book fair Segundas lecturas at Plaza Neruda, a mediated tour at Galeria Chalco Arte Contemporaneo, the theatrical route Ruta de la Libertad Batalla del Pichincha at Museo de los Heroes, theatrical tours at Museo de la Moneda Cuenca, Danza Viva at Casa de la Cultura Nucleo del Azuay, and a dance gala at Teatro Pumapungo.

The main public stop is the Festival cultural Batalla de Pichincha at Parque Calderon at 09:00. El Mercurio also lists an exhibition at Casa Marquez at 10:00 and Cuenca Baila at Parque San Sebastian at 15:00.
