Universidad Catolica De Cuenca Launches Peace Cities Institute

The Universidad Catolica de Cuenca has presented the Instituto de Ciudades de Paz, an academic initiative focused on coexistence, conflict resolution and peacebuilding.
The institute, known as ICiPaz, is being developed as a platform for research, training and social-innovation projects in different territories.
What The Institute Is For
The university says the project is meant to generate academic debate and applied knowledge around social problems, community cohesion and inclusion.
The initiative is being promoted by the university with the participation of rector Agustin Borja Pozo.
Launch Activities
As part of the launch, an academic meeting took place from June 24 to June 26, 2026, bringing together national and international specialists.
The meeting addressed topics including culture of peace, mediation, conflict resolution, social transformation and current challenges in coexistence within urban and community contexts.
The event included conferences, working tables and exchange spaces among academics, students, professionals and representatives of different social sectors.
Beyond The Launch
The institute is intended to connect the university with public institutions, social organizations and citizens.
Its stated objective is to generate proposals that help strengthen coexistence and social development.
