U.S. Expats: Register for the 2026 Midterms at Today's Voter Event in Cuenca

If you're an American citizen living in Cuenca, there's an event happening today that deserves your attention.
The Event
"Be Voter Ready for the 2026 Midterms"
- Date: Friday, February 6, 2026
- Time: 11:00 AM -- 1:30 PM
- Location: La Yunta Tienda y Cocina, Cuenca
Organizers will be on hand to help U.S. citizens with:
- Absentee ballot requests for the November 2026 midterm elections
- Voter registration for those who need to register or update their registration
- FVAP guidance -- navigating the Federal Voting Assistance Program resources
Why It Matters
The November 2026 midterm elections will decide all 435 House seats, 33 Senate seats, and numerous state and local offices. Your vote counts from abroad -- and the process for overseas voters requires more advance planning than voting domestically.
Under the Uniformed and Overseas Citizens Absentee Voting Act (UOCAVA), U.S. citizens living abroad have the right to vote by absentee ballot in federal elections regardless of how long they've been outside the country.
How Overseas Voting Works
- Register using the Federal Post Card Application (FPCA) at FVAP.gov
- Request your ballot -- the FPCA serves as both registration and ballot request
- Receive your ballot by mail or electronically (varies by state)
- Return your ballot by your state's deadline
Most states require you to submit a new FPCA each calendar year, so even if you voted in 2024, you'll need to re-register for 2026.
Can't Make It Today?
If you can't attend the event, you can still register online at FVAP.gov. The process takes about 15 minutes. Start early -- some states have registration deadlines months before the election.
