Azuay Unveils 15 New Tourist Routes for October 9 Holiday, Encouraging Exploration Beyond Cuenca

For those residing in or visiting Cuenca, new opportunities to explore the wider Azuay province are being promoted. The Azuay Prefecture and the Cuenca Municipality have jointly launched a tourism proposal featuring 15 distinct tourist routes. This initiative is specifically designed to encourage exploration during the October 9, 2026 holiday.

The primary goal of this collaborative effort is to broaden the existing tourist offerings and motivate individuals arriving in Cuenca to discover other destinations within the province. The routes encompass a variety of experiences, including nature, adventure, gastronomy, culture, and heritage, catering to different types of travelers.

Among the routes proposed by the Azuay Prefecture are the Ruta del Gavilán, Ruta de las Frutas de Bulán, Ruta del Agua, Ruta Navegando en los Andes, Ruta del Ikat y el Calzado de Gualaceo, Ruta de Chordeleg y las Tres Lagunas de Principal, Ruta Azuay Mucho Gusto, Ruta de San Joaquín y el Biocorredor del Yanuncay, Ruta del Qhapaq Ñan, Ruta de las Guitarras de San Bartolomé, Ruta del Cacao, Ruta del Oso de Anteojos de El Pan, and Ruta Milenaria del Sígsig. These routes are part of the 'Azuay es el Destino' campaign, which seeks to attract visitors to various cantons and stimulate the local economy.

To assist with trip planning, the 'Visit Azuay' platform is available. This online tool provides detailed information on each route and includes a directory of tourist services. Visitors can find options for accommodation, restaurants, traditional eateries, and local operators, making it easier to organize their excursions.
