The Association of Restaurants of Cuenca (AREC) has proposed a definition for rooftop establishments to be regulated through a ministerial agreement. Its proposed definition covers spaces located fully or partly on terraces, rooftops, upper floors, panoramic balconies or other elevated parts of a building.
Juan Pablo Vanegas, president of the Cámara de Turismo del Azuay, said a registry compiled for the proposal identifies at least 15 rooftop establishments in different parts of Cuenca. The source compares that figure with 11 businesses in Guayaquil and 10 in Quito.
Background
The first venues of this type began appearing in Cuenca's Historic Center roughly five years ago, following the COVID-19 pandemic. Restaurants in places such as the Turi lookout were already using the surrounding landscape to offer a similar scenic experience before then.
Cúpulas Azules, in the El Vado sector, has a panoramic view toward the southern part of the city.
Confirmed details
The registry's Cuenca list names Negroni Rooftop, Cúpulas Azules, Zaza Lounge 360, Zielo City View, Cuenca Rooftop, Terra Rooftop 360, Terracoto Rooftop, Tinta Rooftop, The Terrace, Popular Terraza, Los Techos Rooftop, Seiva Rooftop, Bógoli Rooftop, Saya Hotel Rooftop & Restaurant, and Nila Rooftop.
