Azuay Vehicle Sales Jump 41 Percent In Early 2026

Azuay's new-car market is moving much faster this year.
The province registered 5,919 new vehicle sales between January and May 2026. That is a 41.4% increase from the same period in 2025, when 4,187 units were sold.
Azuay also accounted for 9.3% of national sales during the first five months of the year.
Azuay Is Third Nationally
The local number put Azuay behind only Pichincha, with 26,152 units, and Guayas, with 17,780.
The national market also had a big first half. Ecuador reached 78,185 new vehicle sales between January and June 2026, the highest first-semester figure since sector records exist.
That first-half total passed the prior record of 70,294 units from 2011 and was 41.4% above the same semester in 2025, when 55,274 vehicles were sold.
Why Expats May Notice
Genaro Baldeon, president of Aeade, pointed to better financing conditions and a wider vehicle offer as drivers of the market.
That matters locally because more vehicle sales can show up in everyday life: more financing options, more dealership activity, and more competition in newer models.
Electric and hybrid vehicles also made up 25% of total automobile sales in the first half of 2026. So if you have been watching whether Ecuador's car market is slowly shifting away from purely gasoline models, that trend is already showing up in the sales mix.
