Baños Line 12 Buses Move Their Final Stop To Plaza Cochapamba

If you use the Line 12 bus through Baños, there is a route change to put on your calendar.

Starting Monday, August 3, the urban bus line that runs between Baños and Quinta Chica will stop finishing its route beside the Baños cemetery. Its new final stop will be Plaza Cochapamba, about 500 meters from the cemetery.

Why the stop is moving

The plaza offers a larger and more suitable space for buses to maneuver and park. Wilson Jácome, president of the Baños parish council, said the change followed efforts with the Municipality of Cuenca’s Directorate of Mobility Management.

The stated goal is better movement through the area and more safety for both passengers and drivers. For riders who use the cemetery stop as a landmark, the important detail is that the bus will no longer finish there once the change begins.

A one-month test

The new arrangement will initially operate as a one-month pilot. After that period, authorities will evaluate the results and may make adjustments before deciding whether to make the change permanent.

That means the August 3 move is real, but the final arrangement is not yet necessarily permanent. Riders who use the route for work, appointments, shopping, or connections through Baños should allow extra walking time while the pilot begins.

The announcement did not publish an exact new timetable. The practical question for a first trip will be where the bus is actually loading and how the change affects your connection on the other end.

What is not changing

The announcement specifically says Lines 27 and 100 will not change and will continue operating on their usual routes.

For Line 12 riders, the simplest plan is to treat Plaza Cochapamba as the new endpoint from August 3, then reassess after the pilot period. If you normally meet someone, transfer, or walk to the cemetery after getting off, build the extra distance into your timing.

It is a small route adjustment, but terminal changes are exactly the kind of local detail that can turn a familiar trip into a frustrating one if you find out only after boarding.
