Baroque Gala Concert This Saturday at Esquina de las Artes — $15

Saturday Night, Sorted
If your weekend plans currently consist of "maybe walk by the river if it stops raining," here's a better option: a Baroque Gala Concert this Saturday, March 14 at 6:00 PM at Esquina de las Artes, one of Cuenca's most charming cultural venues.
The Details
- What: Baroque Gala Concert
- When: Saturday, March 14, 2026 at 6:00 PM
- Where: Esquina de las Artes, Cuenca
- Cost: $15 general admission / $10 students
- Sponsored by: Casa de la Cultura Ecuatoriana, Núcleo del Azuay
What to Expect
Baroque music — think Vivaldi, Bach, Handel — performed live in an intimate setting. Esquina de las Artes is a small, warm venue that puts you close to the performers. It's a completely different experience from listening to the same music through headphones.
Cuenca has a surprisingly active classical and early music scene, largely driven by the Conservatorio José María Rodríguez and the Orquesta Sinfónica de Cuenca. Events like this are part of a steady calendar of performances that many expats don't know about.
Why Go
Three reasons:
- It's affordable. $15 for a live classical concert would be unheard of in the U.S. or Europe
- The venue is intimate. You're not in Row ZZ of a concert hall — you're in a room where you can see the musicians breathe
- It's a Saturday evening in rainy season. You need a plan, and this is a good one
Also This Week
If baroque isn't your speed, the cultural calendar has a couple of other things happening:
- Friday, March 13 at 6:00 PM — Star Singer performance at the Auditorio Catalina Sojos (3rd floor, Casa de la Cultura). Details from the Casa de la Cultura
- Friday, March 13, 2:00–5:00 PM — The Masters Tours: visit the studios of artists Catalina Carrasco and Azucena Vintimilla. A behind-the-scenes look at working artists' spaces
Getting There
Esquina de las Artes is in the Centro Histórico. A taxi from most parts of the city will cost $2–4. If you're walking from Parque Calderón, it's a short stroll.
No reservations needed — just show up. But arrive a few minutes early, as seating is first-come, first-served and the space isn't huge.
