Who Is Andrés Cepeda?
If you're not familiar with Latin music, Andrés Cepeda is a big deal. The Colombian artist has been performing for 30 years and has won five Latin Grammy Awards across various categories. He's known for romantic ballads and pop with a distinctly warm, accessible style — think the Latin American equivalent of a Michael Bublé or James Taylor.
His biggest hits include "Día Tras Día," "El Carpintero," and "Tengo Ganas." Even if you don't know the names, you've probably heard his music in Cuencano restaurants and taxis.
Who Is Sergio Sacoto?
For expats who've lived in Cuenca a while, Sergio Sacoto needs no introduction. He's one of Ecuador's most respected musicians — a singer-songwriter and guitarist who blends rock, pop, and Andean influences. His music is the soundtrack of Ecuadorian road trips and late-night conversations.
Having Sacoto open for Cepeda is a treat — you're getting two excellent artists for one ticket.
The Venue
The Coliseo Jefferson Pérez (named after Cuenca's Olympic gold medalist race walker) is the city's main indoor arena, located on Av. 12 de Abril near the university. It's Cuenca's go-to venue for major concerts and events. Capacity is approximately 5,000-6,000 for concert configurations.
Getting there: The tram's Feria Libre stop is nearby. Taxis from El Centro cost about $2-3. Parking is available but fills up fast for concerts — arrive early or use the tram.
Why This Matters
Major concerts in Cuenca are relatively rare compared to Quito or Guayaquil. When a big name comes through, it's an event. This is also just one day before Cuenca Foundation Day (April 12), so expect a festive weekend atmosphere across the city.
If you're planning to go, buy tickets sooner rather than later — Cuenca concerts tend to sell out.
