The Provincial Council Chamber of Azuay designated Carlos Javier Fernández de Córdova Webster as the new viceprefect of the province on Friday, November 6, 2026. He was selected from a short list presented by Prefect Alexandra Quintanilla.

His professional background includes extensive experience in local public services and infrastructure. Between 2005 and 2023, he worked at ETAPA EP. During his time at ETAPA EP, his roles included serving as administrator of the Operations Control Department, manager of Drinking Water and Sanitation, Risk Management engineer, and project supervisor.
