12 de Octubre Interchange Could Go To Bid In July

Another piece of Cuenca's interchange puzzle is moving forward.
El Mercurio reports that the government expects to launch the bidding process in July for the interchange at avenida 12 de Octubre, one of three planned projects meant to keep the Cuenca-Azogues highway functioning as a fast corridor.
The Three Interchanges
The projects named in the report are:
- Monay-IESS, already under construction
- Avenida 12 de Octubre, expected to move into bidding
- Gapal, still planned
The Monay-IESS interchange is reported at about 40% progress and is expected to have a partial delivery later this year.
For the 12 de Octubre project, fiscalization has already been contracted to Asociación 12 de Octubre, made up of C.P.R. Asociados and Grupo Enkades.
Why This Matters For Daily Life
If you drive between Cuenca, Turi, the southern neighborhoods, the autopista, or the Azogues direction, this is one to follow. Interchanges can make a long-term difference, but construction usually means months of detours, lane shifts and slower commutes before things improve.
What To Watch
The immediate milestone is the July precontractual process. After that, the useful questions are start date, traffic-management plan and whether work overlaps with other major road projects.
