Cuenca-Giron-Pasaje Is Partly Moving Again, But Km 90 Is Still Closed

The Cuenca-Giron-Pasaje road is partly moving again after landslide cleanup, but this is not a full all-clear.
After six days of machinery work, the Ministry of Infrastructure and Transport (MIT) enabled passage in the Tendales sector. Cleanup is still continuing there, and circulation remains suspended at kilometer 90.
What Changed
- Passage was enabled at Tendales.
- Cleanup of mud and large rocks continues at that point.
- More than 7,000 cubic meters of earth and rocks have been removed between kilometers 76 and 90.
- Circulation is still suspended at kilometer 90.
Alternate Routes
MIT listed two alternate-route recommendations:
- Light vehicles: Cuenca-Molleturo-El Empalme
- Heavy vehicles: Zhud-Cochancay-El Triunfo
For anyone driving between Cuenca and the coast, the useful takeaway is simple: one section has reopened, but the route still has an active closure point. Check conditions before you commit to the drive, especially if you are heading out with a tight schedule.
