Road Work Brings Temporary Restrictions on Cuenca Routes to Tarqui and Chaucha

Road work is bringing temporary circulation restrictions on two access routes serving rural parishes of the Cuenca canton.

The Government of Azuay is working on the Zhucay-Tutupali route in Tarqui and the Sústag-Soldados route connecting San Joaquín and Chaucha. The practical issue for drivers is not a permanent closure. Zhucay-Tutupali

Asfaltar EP began pavement-priming work on Monday, August 3, on the section between the Zhucay bridge and the toll station. Circulation will be suspended in sections between 9:00 a.m. and 3:00 p.m. as the work advances.

The next major step is scheduled for Tuesday, August 11 through Friday, August 14, when the asphalt layer will be placed. Traffic will be enabled partially during those days, depending on the progress of the work.

If you are heading toward Tarqui during the daytime, build in extra time and avoid assuming that a route that was open on one day will move the same way the next day. The stated restriction follows the work rather than applying to every road at all times.

Sústag-Soldados

The second work front is on the Sústag-Soldados route, which connects the parishes of San Joaquín and Chaucha. The road has deteriorated, so crews are carrying out profile and sealing work at kilometers 2 and 3.1.

At kilometer 4.2, a retaining wall is being built to restore the road width and reinforce safety for people using the corridor.
