Gualaceo Has a Smaller Fiesta Calendar This Year, But Still Plenty Going On

If Gualaceo is on your easy day-trip list, the next week has a few reasons to go.
The municipality has a smaller fiesta calendar this year for the canton’s 202nd anniversary, citing COOTAD reforms that reduced resources for social events. Even so, the program is running from June 12 through June 27, with several public activities still on the schedule.
Key Dates To Know

Sunday, June 21 at 13:00: Cholita Gualacena election at Concha Acustica

-
Thursday, June 25 at 08:30: Civic-student parade through the city's main streets
-
Thursday, June 25 at 12:00: Solemn session at Plaza Civica
-

Why Expats Should Care
Gualaceo is one of the easiest nearby towns to fold into a half-day or full-day plan from Cuenca. A lighter event calendar may actually make the fiestas more manageable if you want the atmosphere without a wall-to-wall party schedule.
The practical note: the biggest public movement will likely be around the June 25 parade and central events. If you are driving in, expect slower movement around the main streets and Plaza Civica that day.
Simple Plan
For a low-effort visit, aim for the June 21 Cholita Gualacena event or the June 25 morning parade. For a night plan, the June 24 queen's coronation or June 25 cantonization show are the obvious picks.
