IESS Cuenca Adds Digital Kiosks For Hospital Paperwork

A hospital errand at IESS in Cuenca now starts with a screen instead of a loose line. Jose Carrasco Arteaga Hospital has installed four digital turn kiosks to organize several of the procedures affiliates handle in person.
The kiosks have been in place since late April, but the system is worth knowing about before your next visit because it changes what you need to have ready when you walk in.
What the kiosks handle
Users can obtain turns for:
- Customer service
- Hospital admission
- Validation of medical certificates
- Monetary subsidies
Appointments in general and family medicine can be scheduled through the IzyBot digital platform. Computers inside the hospital are available for medical scheduling, while the turn kiosks sit at the main entrance.
What to bring
At the screen, an affiliate enters a cedula number, date of birth, and the code displayed by the machine. The available procedures then appear, and the user chooses the one needed before moving to the waiting room.
The source says the kiosk process takes no more than two minutes. That does not guarantee a two-minute hospital visit, of course, but it should make the first administrative step more predictable.
Hours and assistance
The digital turn system operates from 6:00 a.m. to 7:00 p.m. Guides remain near the machines to help users, especially older adults.
Gabriela Molina, the hospital's customer-service chief, says her department handles about 400 users a day. The hospital has also added seating and large screens for people waiting for their turns.
The practical expat angle
If you use IESS, bring your cedula details and do not be shy about asking the guide for help. A kiosk interface can be faster than sorting out the wrong line, especially when the menu includes several administrative categories that sound similar in Spanish.
It is also important not to assume that a kiosk creates appointment availability. Scheduling still depends on what is open. The improvement here is the front end: clearer turns, a defined entry process, and staff assigned to help people use it.
For anyone who has postponed a certificate validation, admission question, or other hospital paperwork because the process felt opaque, this is a useful update to keep in your phone.
