Mamma Mia! — the Broadway-licensed musical built entirely on the music of ABBA — is playing at Cuenca's Teatro Carlos Cueva Tamariz tonight, February 27, at 7:30 PM. This is the first time the production has come to Cuenca after touring Quito and Guayaquil since 2020.

The story: Sophie, a young woman on a Greek island, is about to get married. She secretly invites three men from her mother's past, hoping to figure out which one is her real father. Chaos, romance, and a lot of ABBA songs ensue.

You'll hear "Dancing Queen," "Super Trouper," "The Winner Takes It All," "Voulez-Vous," and more — all performed live.

A Cuencano on Stage

The cast includes Alex Cisneros, a Cuencano actor playing Bill Austin — the writer and adventurous traveler who's one of the three possible fathers. The rest of the principal cast:

• Noraima Reeves as Tanya
• Magda Salinas as Rosie

Producer Daniela Cabezas called this "the first time in Cuenca" for a production of this scale — and she's right. Large-format Broadway touring shows rarely make it past Quito and Guayaquil.
