Toys R Us Opens Its First Cuenca and Ecuador Store Today

Cuenca gets a very recognizable U.S. retail name today.
El Mercurio reports that Toys R Us opens its first store in Cuenca and Ecuador on Saturday, May 30, 2026.
The store will begin public attention at 11:00.
Where It Is
El Mercurio reports the store is on Avenida de las Americas, diagonal to Centro Cristiano.
The company announced inauguration surprises through its official Facebook account.
The opening comes just before Dia del Nino, and El Mercurio notes that several people had already seen the store before public attention began.
Why Expats Care
If you have kids, grandkids or visiting family, this is an easy one to file away. It also says something about Cuenca's retail shift: international brands are showing up faster now, not only in the new mall but around other commercial corridors too.
Expect opening-day crowds. If you just want to browse without the rush, give it a few days.
