UCuenca's AYNI Agroecological Fair Runs Every Thursday Morning

There is a small Thursday market worth putting on the weekly radar if you like local produce and lower-plastic shopping.
El Mercurio reports that the University of Cuenca is promoting the AYNI Agroecological Fair, which runs every Thursday from 09:00 to 13:00 in the patio of the Faculty of Psychology.
What You Can Find
The fair brings together entrepreneurs from the Red Agroecologica del Austro.
El Mercurio lists these products:
- Fresh fruits and vegetables
- Healthy foods made with local products
- Natural products
The university effort is managed through the Direccion de Vinculacion con la Sociedad and is meant to support healthy eating, sustainability and fair trade between producers and consumers.
What To Bring
El Mercurio specifically recommends that attendees bring reusable bags, sacks and containers to reduce plastic use.
That is the practical expat note: if you are used to market shopping at Feria Libre or 10 de Agosto, this is a smaller university-based option with a sustainability angle. Bring your own bags and containers, and treat it as a Thursday morning stop rather than an all-day market.
Why It Exists
El Mercurio reports that the university signed an agreement in April 2026 with the Red Agroecologica del Austro to continue the fair and connect farmers with the university community and the public.
