The production is a scenic-symphonic adaptation based on Sergei Prokofiev's story.
Why It Is Local
El Mercurio reports that the staging places Pedro in Cajas National Park with a masked trogon bird, an Andean duck and a rescued cat.
The story includes the paramo wolf and references to the Andean ecosystem, including cloud forests, lagoons and garua.
William Vergara, director of the University of Cuenca Symphony Orchestra, described it as a didactic concert using story, orchestra and ballet to bring children closer to music.
For expat families, this is a very Cuenca version of a classic: familiar enough to follow, but adapted around Cajas and local environmental education.
