Meet Boris Ochoa, Cuenca's New Transport Chamber President (2026–2028)

New Leadership at the Transport Chamber
Boris Ochoa was elected the new president of the Cámara de Transporte de Cuenca for the 2026–2028 term. The vote happened on April 11, 2026 at the coliseum of the Sindicato de Choferes Profesionales del Azuay — the professional drivers' union facility.
He replaces Diego Idrovo, who held the seat from 2022 to 2026.
What He Said He'll Do
Ochoa's first 100 days are focused on internal reorganization. One of his concrete operational priorities: renovation of payment consoles across the 475 buses in Cuenca's fleet — the tap-and-validate systems riders use to pay.
That's both a mobility upgrade and an administrative modernization. In the paper's phrasing: "la renovación de las consolas en los 475 buses."
What This Means for You
- If you ride Cuenca's buses, the one tangible change on the table is the console modernization — smoother tap-and-go, fewer payment glitches. It's not instant, but it's the explicit plan.
- Transport chamber politics = bus and taxi policy. The Cámara is the collective voice for Cuenca's transport operators and negotiates directly with the municipality on fares, routes, and subsidies. Who runs it matters for your daily commute.
- Watch the subsidy story. The sector's other immediate pressure is fuel prices — which just went up this week. A new chamber president walking into a fuel hike has a very busy first 100 days.
