Cuenca Cómo Vamos Expands Reach for Quality of Life Reports, Partnering with Local Media

Cuenca Cómo Vamos, an international initiative that Cuenca has been part of since 2024 through the management of the University of Azuay, is expanding its efforts to share important information about the canton. The organization recently signed promotion agreements with over 10 media outlets to broaden the dissemination of its reports on Cuenca's quality of life. Diario El Mercurio formalized its participation in the 2026 edition, with its manager, Xavier Merchán, present during the signing of the agreement, which took place on September 18 at the University of Azuay. This collaboration highlights a commitment to ensuring that data reaches a wider audience.

Francisco Salgado, rector of the University of Azuay, emphasized that the results from these reports are crucial for identifying the realities within the canton. The methodology of Cuenca Cómo Vamos combines public information with a citizen perception survey to measure the evolution of living conditions. This comprehensive study collects information on various vital aspects, including health, education, roads, security, poverty, and services, covering both urban and rural areas of Cuenca. Approximately 80% of the data used in the study comes from public entities, while the remaining portion is gathered through surveys that capture inhabitants' perceptions on topics such as neighborhood security, citizen participation, and access to services.

Manuela Cordero, a spokesperson for the project, underscored the fundamental role of media outlets in guaranteeing the reliability and impartiality of the data, which is essential for fostering an informed citizenry. Currently, data is being compiled for the 2026 report, with its publication scheduled for December. This ongoing effort aims to provide valuable insights into the progress and challenges faced by the community, offering a practical resource for residents and stakeholders alike.
