Cuenca Hosts Latin American Motorcycle Summit, Emphasizing Road Safety and Mobility

Cuenca recently served as the host city for a significant international gathering: the Third Ordinary General Assembly and International Congress of the Latin American Alliance of Motorcycle Sector Associations (MotoLatam). Representatives from Argentina, Chile, Colombia, Ecuador, Guatemala, Mexico, Peru, Uruguay, and Venezuela participated in the meeting, which took place at the Four Points by Sheraton hotel.

The congress concluded with the signing of the Cuenca Declaration, a document that recognizes the motorcycle as a vital tool for social and economic inclusion for millions of people across the region. This perspective is particularly relevant in Ecuador, where the motorcycle market is experiencing rapid growth, advancing at a rate close to 20% annually. Currently, approximately two motorcycles are sold for every automobile in the country, and new registrations are projected to exceed 300,000 in 2026. Motorcycles now constitute 36% of Ecuador's vehicle fleet, with about 30% participation, and nine out of ten new motorcycles are used for mobility purposes.
