Cuenca Riders Put the City on the Equinoccial Tour Map

Cuenca is being considered as one of the next stops for the Equinoccial Tour, a show-jumping circuit that visits cities around Ecuador. The possibility was reported after the tour's August 8–9, 2026 stop in Manta, where clubs from Quito, Riobamba, Ambato, Cuenca, and other provinces participated.
The Manta competition included levels from beginner categories through semiprofessional tests. The highest jump reached 1.20 meters.
A Cuenca rider in the results
María Paz Salazar, a 15-year-old rider from Cuenca, finished first in the schools test and second in the 90-centimeter class. She trains at the Centro Agrícola de Cuenca and has been riding for four years.
The report describes the Manta stop as a first-of-its-kind competition alongside the sea for that city. The event also attracted close to 10 clubs, despite a limited participant cap used to evaluate the conditions for bringing horses to Manta.
Cuenca is a possibility, not a confirmed date
The organizer said Cuenca is being considered as one of the circuit's next venues and that two possible locations are being analyzed. No Cuenca date, venue, ticket information, or confirmed hosting announcement was provided.
The Equinoccial Tour has been operating for three years and will continue with competitions in Quito and Riobamba before the season closes. The report says Cuenca is one of the destinations the circuit is seeking to incorporate for 2027.
What this means for Cuenca expats
For people looking for local activities beyond the usual city-center calendar, this is an early signal to watch rather than an event listing. The city already has a local rider in the tour's recent results, and the organizers are evaluating possible Cuenca venues.
The practical next step is waiting for a formal announcement. Until the organizers publish a date and location, there is no confirmed Cuenca competition to plan around.
