Cuenca Museums Open During the August Holiday With New Exhibits and Tours

Cuenca’s museums and cultural spaces will stay active during the August holiday, with exhibitions, planetarium sessions, and theatrical experiences scheduled from August 8 through August 10, 2026.

The schedule gives residents several ways to spend part of the long weekend locally, from the Museo Municipal Remigio Crespo Toral and the Museo Municipal de Arte Moderno to the Planetario Municipal, Museo Pumapungo, and Museo Catedral Antigua.

Museum options

The Museo Municipal Remigio Crespo Toral will open from 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. from August 8 through August 10. Its listed exhibitions are El Modernismo, El Coleccionismo, and Rostros, Naturaleza y Rincones. Ecuador en acuarela, by Rosalía Andrade.

The Museo Municipal de Arte Moderno will keep the same schedule and will show Se quema el Barrio, by Jonnathan Mosquera, and El tiempo que no deja heridos, by Carlos Echeverría Kossak. The Galería de la Alcaldía will also open from 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m., with Dimensiones Internas by Gustavo López Moreno.

The Museo de las Conceptas will open from 10:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. and lists admission at $4, with a $2 differential rate. The Museo Municipal de la Paja Toquilla y el Sombrero will open from 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. on August 8 and August 10.

Planetarium and historic tours

The Planetario Municipal will offer 360° FullDome astronomical projections at 11:00 a.m., noon, 3:00 p.m., and 4:00 p.m. on August 8. On August 9 and 10, the listed projection times are 11:00 a.m. and noon. Cine en el Planetario is scheduled for 2:00 p.m. on August 9 and 10.

The Museo de la Moneda will offer theatrical tours with historical characters from 10:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. on August 9 and 10. The Museo Pumapungo lists hours of 10:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. and includes exhibitions such as Kañaris: Identidad y Persistencia, La Dama de Pumapungo, and Saberes Alfareros Andinos.

The Museo Catedral Antigua will offer its regular holiday schedule, a theatrical tour on August 8 at 7:00 p.m., and admission prices ranging from $1.25 to $10 depending on the activity and visitor category.
