Cuenca Philharmonic Plans a Free Jazz-Andean Concert

The Orquesta Filarmonica de Cuenca has a free concert coming up this week, and it is not the usual sit-still-and-be-serious kind of program.
The concert is scheduled for June 11, 2026, at 20:00, at the Teatro de la Casa de la Cultura.
Admission is free until capacity is reached.
What They Are Playing
The program brings together:
- Andean sounds
- Ecuadorian traditions
- Blues
- Funk
- Samba
- Festejo
- Ancestral music
- Symphonic format
- Musical improvisation
The invited group is Jazz de Barro, and the musical direction is by Michael Meissner.
The Idea Behind It
The repertoire includes original compositions that combine Latin American and Andean musical memory with contemporary orchestral language.
The project is being developed with the Municipality of Cuenca's Culture Directorate and the Casa de la Cultura Ecuatoriana, Azuay chapter.
What This Means For Expats
This is a low-friction Cuenca night out: central venue, free entry, and a program that should be easier to enjoy even if you do not normally follow classical music.
Because entry is only until the room fills, treat 20:00 as the show time, not the arrival time. Get there early if you want decent seats.
