Expired Ecuador Licenses Are Only Valid Until June 30

If your Ecuador driver's license is expired, this is the deadline to put on the calendar.
Expired licenses can be used only until June 30, 2026. After that, the Agencia Nacional de Transito says expired licenses will no longer be valid for driving, and there will be no new extensions or exceptions.
Extra Saturday Hours
To help people renew before the grace period ends, the ANT announced special Saturday service on June 20 and June 27, from 08:00 to 16:00.
This applies to people who already have renewal appointments scheduled for dates after June 30.
What To Bring
If you qualify, go to the same agency where your appointment was scheduled. Bring:
-
Your printed appointment
-
All legal requirements for license renewal
The reason this grace period existed was the ANT closure between February and March 2026.
Why Expats Should Care
This is especially easy to miss if you do not drive every day or if your renewal appointment is already booked for later in the year. The key point is simple: an appointment after June 30 does not automatically mean you can keep driving on an expired license after June 30.
If your license is expired and you have a later appointment, use the Saturday window if you can.
