El Valle Hospital Has Seen 16,000 Patients in Its First 100 Days

Cuenca's municipal hospital in El Valle is not easing into service quietly.
El Mercurio reports that the Hospital Municipal de El Valle has treated more than 16,000 patients in its first 100 days after opening in early February 2026.
That total includes 200 surgeries.
What The Hospital Offers
The hospital is in the rural parish of El Valle and has 31 medical specialties, according to El Mercurio.
The report says consultations cost $10 and emergency service is available 24 hours.
All areas are enabled, but the hospital is not yet at full staffing. El Mercurio reports that it is operating at about 70%, with 92 doctors now. When fully staffed, the number is expected to reach 120 specialists.
Why It Matters
For people living on Cuenca's east and south sides, El Valle can be a closer option than crossing town for municipal care.
El Mercurio quoted Celina Lopez, an older adult from Turi, who said the hospital was close to her home and that the service was very good.
The practical takeaway is simple: this is now a real part of Cuenca's local health network, not just a new building waiting to fill up.
