The Glorieta in Parque Calderon Is Closed Until August 31

One of Parque Calderon's most familiar spots is off limits for a while.
El Mercurio reports that La Glorieta del Parque Calderon closed on May 25 and is expected to remain closed until August 31 because of work inside Parque Calderon.
What Is Happening
The Glorieta is getting integral maintenance, including a floor replacement.
That means the space normally used for cultural, artistic and free-expression activities will not be available during the closure.
El Mercurio reports that Xavier Aguirre, director of Areas Historicas y Patrimoniales de Cuenca, said the work should take around 45 days.
The broader physical and electrical reconstruction of Parque Calderon is moving forward as planned, according to the same report. Aguirre said the physical work is now 50% complete.
Where To Go Instead
If your group normally uses the Glorieta, El Mercurio reports that the recommendation is to use other spaces during the closure, including Plaza San Francisco.
The renovation includes replacing old discontinued tile with non-slip andesite stone, plus a new lighting system, amplification, electrical networks and tactile paving to improve mobility for people with disabilities.
For expats, this is less about avoiding the whole park and more about knowing that one of the center's usual gathering points is temporarily unavailable.
