Explore Cuenca's Rich History with Two Heritage House Tours This September

Cuenca residents and visitors have a unique opportunity to delve into the city's rich past with two guided tours of municipal heritage houses this September. These routes are designed to showcase properties linked to Cuenca's educational, artisanal, musical, and architectural history, all located within the Historic Center.

The first tour is scheduled for Thursday, September 24, 2026, starting at 3:00 PM. The meeting point for this route will be at the intersection of Convención del 45 and Mariscal La Mar. This particular journey will include visits to the Casa del Alfarero, a site deeply connected to Cuenca's renowned ceramic tradition, and the Casa de las Posadas. Dating back to 1806, the Casa de las Posadas also played a role in historical activities such as weaving and ceramic production, offering a glimpse into the city's vibrant artisanal heritage.

The second route will take place on Saturday, September 26, 2026, beginning at 9:00 AM. Participants for this tour should gather at Benigno Malo and Gran Colombia. This itinerary will feature the Antigua Escuela Central, a significant building constructed in the second half of the 19th century that served both as a school and a hospital. The tour will also include the Casa de la Lira, which dates from 1847, and the Casa Márquez, built in 1872. These houses collectively offer insights into Cuenca's educational and architectural evolution.
