Festival Madre Tierra Returns This Week — Free Concerts, Intercultural Parade, Artists from 11 Countries

What Is Festival Madre Tierra?
The Festival Madre Tierra (Mother Earth Festival) is one of Cuenca's most unique cultural events — a multi-day gathering that blends art, environmental awareness, and community action. Now in its 15th edition, the festival has grown from a local initiative into an international event.
This year's theme is "Conectarnos desde la raíz" (Connecting from the Root) — an invitation to reconnect with our identity as part of nature, not separate from it.

Why You Should Go
Festival Madre Tierra isn't your typical music festival — it's more like a community celebration with a strong environmental and cultural message. The vibe is relaxed, inclusive, and very Cuenca. You'll hear everything from Andean music to experimental art pieces, and the Parque La Libertad setting is beautiful.
It's also completely free, which makes it a great weekend outing whether you're into the environmental message or just want to hear live music and soak up the atmosphere.
Getting There
Parque La Libertad is in the El Vecino area, north of the historic center. You can take a taxi (should be $2-3 from El Centro) or the bus. If driving, note that parking near the park will be limited during the event — arrive early or park on side streets.
