Girón Opens Its 202nd Anniversary Agenda Tonight

If you like nearby canton festivals, Girón starts its anniversary agenda tonight.
The celebration marks 202 years of the canton's political emancipation.
Tonight's Event
The opening event is the queen election, scheduled for Friday, June 19, starting at 19:00 at Salón del Pueblo Jaime Vallejo Erráez.
What Else Is Scheduled
The agenda continues on Sunday, June 21, with a sports afternoon starting at 13:00 at the synthetic field of the municipal GAD and the covered court at Parque 25 de Junio. Delegations from neighboring cantons are expected to participate.
That same evening, at 19:00, the Cholita Gironense election will be held at Parque 25 de Junio.
The celebration closes on Thursday, June 25, with:
-
09:00: cultural and folkloric parade through the main streets of the city
-
15:00: commemorative solemn session in the municipal GAD session room
A Smaller Budget This Year
The municipal administration said this year's festival resources were reduced because COOTAD reforms prioritize public investment in works and services. The municipality had not confirmed artists for the scheduled events.
For Cuenca residents, Girón is close enough to keep on the day-trip radar. Just confirm transportation timing before heading out, especially if you plan to stay for evening events.
