Azuay Is Under a Very High UV Warning Today

Today is a sunscreen-and-hat day in Cuenca.
El Universo reports that Ecuador's weather agency, INAMHI, warned that on Monday, June 1, ultraviolet radiation will be high to very high across much of the country.
The most severe conditions are expected in the Sierra.
What INAMHI Warned
El Universo reports Pichincha is forecast to reach a UV index of 13, classified as extremely high.
Imbabura is also expected to see an extreme level, with a UV index of 11.
Several provinces are expected to register very high radiation, with indexes between 8 and 10.
That list includes Azuay, along with Carchi, Esmeraldas, Manabi, Santo Domingo de los Tsachilas, Cotopaxi, Bolivar, Los Rios, Guayas, Santa Elena, Loja, Morona Santiago, Pastaza and other localities in the Coast, Sierra and Amazon.
The Hours To Watch
El Universo reports INAMHI recommended avoiding prolonged sun exposure, especially between 10:00 and 15:00, when radiation reaches its highest intensity.
INAMHI also advised using protection such as:
- Clothing that covers the skin
- A hat
- Sunglasses with UV filter
- Sunscreen
What This Means In Cuenca
Cuenca's cool air can make the sun feel less aggressive than it is. That is the trap.
If you are walking El Centro, heading to a market, taking kids to the park or spending time around the Tomebamba, treat the middle of the day like a high-exposure window. Shade, sleeves and sunscreen are the boring choices that pay off.
