Corpus Christi Sweets Start Thursday Around Parque Calderon

Cuenca's sweetest week is almost here.
El Mercurio reports that the traditional Corpus Christi sweets sale will officially begin on Thursday, June 4, 2026, around Parque Calderon.
The sale is scheduled to run until June 14, with more than 70 vendors expected to offer the traditional sweets.
What Happened Sunday
El Mercurio reports that Monsignor Marcos Perez Caicedo, archbishop of Cuenca, blessed the Corpus Christi sweets on Sunday, May 31, 2026, during the noon Mass at the Catedral de La Inmaculada Concepcion.
The blessing included local producers, including Sandra Garcia, who has made the sweets for three decades in Totoracocha.
El Mercurio reports that about 20 people involved in the sweet trade received the archbishop's blessing in the Cathedral.
When To Go
The official sale begins Thursday, June 4.
El Mercurio reports that on Thursday, from 18:00, the Hora Santa and procession will begin from the Iglesia de San Sebastian.
Each night starting Thursday, the traditional castillos are expected after the liturgies and processions, around 20:30.
Because of the floor-replacement work in Parque Calderon, El Mercurio reports the castillos will be burned among Benigno Malo, Bolivar, Sucre and Luis Cordero.
Practical Notes
If you are new to Cuenca, Corpus Christi is one of the city's classic center-of-town traditions: sweets, church events, evening crowds and fireworks structures all packed into the blocks around the Cathedral.
Go early if you want easier walking. Go at night if you want the atmosphere. Either way, keep some distance when the castillos are lit.
