Guabizhun Lagoon Now Has a Nighttime Glow

If you are looking for a low-key evening trip outside Cuenca, Guabizhun lagoon just got more interesting.
El Mercurio reports the lagoon, located between Azuay and Canar, now has lights installed on handrails and bridges that allow visitors to walk around about 40% of the body of water.
At night, those lights reflect on the lagoon.
Visiting Hours And Costs
El Mercurio reports that night visitors can enter until 22:00, when the lights are turned off automatically.
From Tuesday to Friday, access is free from 08:00 to 17:00.
On weekends and holidays, entry costs $1 per person.
Children pay $0.50.
Weekend service hours extend until 18:00.
What You Can Do There
El Mercurio reports that pedal boats and rowing boats cost $1.50 per person.
Life jackets are mandatory, and each boat ride lasts up to 15 minutes.
The site also has a renovated children's park, a craft shop and a cafe run by local entrepreneurs.
Getting There From Cuenca
El Mercurio reports two common routes from Cuenca:
- Through Llacao, then toward Solano
- Through Ricaurte, Bibin, La Raya and Deleg
The lagoon can also be reached through the community of Zinin.
What To Know Before You Go
At night, the boats are not available because they are considered a risk for visitors.
Think of this as a walk-and-photo stop, not a late-night lake activity. If you go after dark, arrive well before 22:00 and keep the visit simple.
