Cuenca’s Free Cámara Lúcida Film Festival Opens September 23

Cuenca’s Cámara Lúcida film festival runs September 23–October 1, 2026, with free admission and more than 40 films from 28 countries, El Mercurio reports. Its tenth edition includes premieres, special screenings and conversations with filmmakers.

Two dates to start with

Opening night is September 23 at 7:30 p.m. in Teatro Sucre, with Argentine director Ignacio Ceroi’s “No arreglen ni limpien mi habitación, a mí me gusta como está.”

For a local focus, the September 26 program starts at 7:30 p.m. in Teatro Pumapungo. It brings together “Miguel,” “Tribuna Suprema del Arte,” “Solario” and “La sombra refugiada,” with their filmmakers taking part.

“Tribuna Suprema del Arte” is Juan Carlos Granda’s first documentary. He spent three years making the 25-minute film about Miguel, a son of Radio Popular’s founders.

Free screenings and filmmaker conversations

Founder and director Francisco Álvarez says the festival has brought more than 25,000 people to screenings and shown over 1,000 films since its creation in 2016.

This edition has no public funding, according to the report. The organizing team and a network of collaborators are supporting the program and its free entry.

Brazilian filmmaker Affonso Uchoa is scheduled to attend the October 1 closing. When choosing a screening, check its individual venue and time: the program uses both Teatro Sucre and Teatro Pumapungo.
