Cuenca Offers Free Public Bike Memberships Today

If you have been meaning to try Cuenca's public-bike system, today is a useful day to do it.
El Mercurio reports that EMOV EP will run a special public-bike promotion on June 3 for World Bicycle Day.
The offer is simple: free registration for Cuenca's public-bike system at active stations, with EMOV staff helping people sign up.
Where To Go
El Mercurio reports three registration windows:
- 08:00 to 09:00 at Parque de la Madre
- 11:00 to 12:00 at Parque Calderon
- 13:00 to 14:00 at Maria Auxiliadora
You need to bring a copy of your cedula de identidad.
Why EMOV Is Doing It
The campaign is meant to encourage people to leave private cars behind and use more sustainable transport for trips to work or study.
That is the official framing. For everyday life in Cuenca, the practical question is whether the bike stations line up with your normal errands.
What This Means For Expats
This is a low-risk way to test the system without paying a membership fee first.
If you live near El Centro, Parque de la Madre or Maria Auxiliadora, it is worth stopping by with your cedula copy. Even if you only use the system occasionally, it can be handy when traffic is slow or tram/walking combinations do not quite fit your route.
