Cuenca-Peru Buses Are Back to 9 PM Departures After the Curfew Ended

The overnight bus run from Cuenca to Peru is back on its usual hour.
El Mercurio reports that buses from the Terminal Terrestre de Cuenca to Tumbes, Mancora, Piura and Chiclayo are again leaving from 21:00 after the curfew ended at 05:00 on May 18, 2026.
What Changed
During the 15-day curfew, from May 3 through May 18, the same routes had been leaving from 17:00 so buses could pass through El Oro before the restriction hours.
Now that the presidential decree has ended, passengers can travel from Cuenca at the normal 21:00 departure time for routes toward Peru.
Why Expats Should Care
If you use the Peru border run for travel, paperwork, family visits, or a longer coastal trip, the practical detail is simple: the Cuenca departure time has moved back from late afternoon to the regular night schedule.
