UCuenca Music Awards Open a Composer Call Through June 7

Young composers have a new Cuenca-based opportunity on the calendar.
El Mercurio reports that the Direccion de Cultura de la Universidad de Cuenca opened the music line of the Premios Cultura UCuenca: Fondos Concursables 2026.
Applications are open until June 7.
Who Can Apply
The call is for Ecuadorian composers or foreign composers with at least three years of residence in Ecuador.
Applicants must be between 18 and 35 years old and show previous experience with a portfolio of at least three instrumental works, either chamber or symphonic.
The proposed works must be original, unpublished pieces for string quartet.
What Happens Next
El Mercurio reports this timeline:
- Proposal review: through June 21
- Winner announcement: June 22
- Project development: July to August
- Final edited scores due: August 31
- Premiere at MusicaOcupa 2026 in September 2026
The selected works will be part of the 10th edition of MusicaOcupa, a classical music festival in unusual spaces.
For expats connected to Cuenca's music scene, this is a good one to pass along to younger composers, teachers and conservatory circles.
