A Cuenca Artist Just Illustrated Ecuador for Sports Illustrated

A Cuenca artist just put Ecuador on a global sports-design stage.
El Mercurio reports that Cristian Morocho, the Cuenca artist known as Cavadrio, was selected to represent Ecuador's national football team, La Tri, in Sports Illustrated.
The project is part of the magazine's global One Global Game campaign for the World Cup.
What He Created
El Mercurio reports that Morocho had creative freedom to build an illustration representing Ecuador's identity.
The final piece includes:
- Chimborazo
- Mitad del Mundo
- The Sol de la Tolita
- An iguana representing the island and coastal regions
- A jaguar for the Amazon
- The condor as a central element from the national shield
- The Chacana, an Andean cross
- Otavalo symbolism
The illustration also references the first goal that qualified Ecuador for a World Cup and the colors and design of the shirt La Tri wore during those qualifiers.
Why It Matters Locally
This is not a municipal-service story. It is just a nice Cuenca-pride story.
El Mercurio reports Morocho called the opportunity a historic collaboration and said Ecuadorians abroad had written to congratulate him.
For a city with a serious arts and design culture, this is one of those small international moments worth noticing.
