Cuenca Firefighters Take Drones And Boats To Zamora Rescue Work

Cuenca firefighters are supporting rescue work in Zamora after severe flooding in Zamora Chinchipe.
A team from the Cuenca Fire Department traveled on Sunday, July 5, 2026, to Cantzama, in the canton of Zamora, to support search and rescue work after the Zamora River overflowed.
The contingent brought specialized personnel, drones, and boats to strengthen operations with the institutions already responding to the emergency.
What Happened
The Zamora River overflowed on the night of July 3 and caused flooding in several areas of Guadalupe parish, in Zamora Chinchipe.
The official emergency figures listed five dead, including four adults and one minor.
They also listed 38 injured people, including 10 firefighters rescued at the site, and dozens of affected families.
Road Access And Cleanup
Infrastructure and Transport Minister Roberto Luque, who chairs the COE, said the Loja-Zamora road is already open.
Transport ministry personnel will continue cleanup work.
For Cuenca residents, this is both a regional emergency story and a reminder of how often local emergency teams support work well beyond the city limits.
