Azuay Residents Can Join Ecuador's Andean Condor Monitoring Team

If you like your volunteer work with mountain air and a serious conservation purpose, this one is worth a look.
El Mercurio reports that the Fundacion Condor Andino has opened a call for volunteers to join its national monitoring network for the Andean condor, a species the report describes as in grave danger of extinction.
Who Can Apply
The call is open until May 31, 2026, for volunteers in 15 provinces, including Azuay.
El Mercurio reports that the goal is to create 150 monitoring teams with 500 participants to cover the Andean condor's distribution area in Ecuador.
Applicants need to be adults, in groups of 3 to 5 people, and available for fieldwork under demanding conditions. The report lists medium-high difficulty, walks of 3 to 6 hours, and 3 days in the field.
Training And Field Dates
Field monitoring is planned for September 18 to 20, 2026.
Mandatory training includes an online course from June 1 to 30, support for late participants until July 15, and technical accompaniment from July 1 to August 22.
For the southern region, which includes Canar, Azuay, Loja, El Oro and Zamora, the in-person meeting has a tentative date of August 22 in Cuenca.
Monitoring stations are expected to be assigned starting June 21, 2026. El Mercurio lists the application form as bit.ly/4ucOvam.
